Project Description

CM Services began our partnership with the Association of Independent Manufacturers Representatives (AIM/R) in 2014.

At that time, the association provided an annual conference and only a few industry councils. Since then, AIM/R has trusted our association management company (AMC) to drive significant strategic and operational growth.

We work together to advance the Rep Agency’s position through the “AIM/R RepAdvantage.”

[AIM/R Multiplication through Collaboration | CM Services]

Project Description

AIM/R is the leading trade association advocating for Rep Agencies in the plumbing, heating and irrigation industry.

Rep Agents serve as independent, expert sales forces for manufacturers. They connect product makers with the regional wholesalers and distributors who power the supply chain.

The association wanted more for its members, leading to a robust strategic planning process. This growth centered on the RepAdvantage, which highlights why AIM/R members are head-and-shoulders above other reps.

Our team manages deliverables across four key pillars: outreach, resources, education and events. We oversee AIM/R’s thriving life cycle, from monthly e-learnings to high-level industry press partnerships.

The Challenges

A decade ago, AIM/R needed to transform its limited offerings into a comprehensive member experience. The primary challenge was managing rapid growth without losing a culture of close networking.

These were our main roadblocks to overcome:

  • Scaling signature events. Annual conference attendance kept climbing at high rates.
  • Venue limitations. Exponential growth required careful selection of resorts to keep all attendees under one roof.
  • Standing-room-only demand. Popularity led to yearly waitlists for coveted conference seats.
  • Outdated infrastructure. The association needed a bona fide website and a better member login experience.

At CM Services, we rolled up our sleeves and went to work.

Our Approach

We integrated with highly engaged volunteers who are deeply invested in every association detail. Our approach uses regular virtual and in-person meetings to advance critical initiatives.

We focused on expanding the association’s reach through targeted advisory councils and educational programs.

Additionally, we got to know the people at AIM/R; they’re truly passionate.

During the 50th Annual Conference, a notable moment highlighted our team’s adaptability. The Golden Eagle Award, a prestigious honor for manufacturers, was damaged during shipment.

Instead of hiding the mishap, we made the “broken bird” a beloved gala photo op. We properly honored the recipient with a replacement while creating a lasting memory.

What We Delivered

AIM/R needed an AMC capable of scaling every aspect of the organization at once. We brought structure and oversight to their outreach, resources, education and events pillars.

Services Provided

Our partnership provides a specific list of high-impact deliverables for AIM/R:

  • Digital branding. Launched a new website and social media presence on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Education. Produced monthly AIM/R on Tap e-learnings on timely industry issues.
  • Press partnerships. Fostered in-depth relationships with The Wholesaler, Supply House Times, Southern PHC and Plumbing + HVAC.
  • Advisory councils. Expanded the Wholesaler Advisory Council (WAC) and Manufacturers Advisory Council (MAC).
  • Strategic growth. Created three reverse councils with national distributors and expanded fellow association partnerships.
  • Awards and legacy. Created the AIM/R Hall of Fame Award and established the Bill Freeman Memorial Fund.
  • Community impact. Held the first AIM/R Annual Golf Tournament to award Bill Freeman Memorial Scholarships.
  • Revenue development. Built a robust sponsorship program and celebrated the association’s 50th anniversary event in 2022.

Project Timeline

CM Services and AIM/R have built a powerful partnership since 2014. Our work has evolved from managing a few deliverables to overseeing a full-service association strategy:

  • 2014. Began managing AIM/R’s annual conference and initial industry councils.
  • Strategic expansion. Implemented a planning process built on the four pillars.
  • Digital evolution. Launched a new website and established a robust social media presence.
  • Educational assets. Introduced monthly e-learnings and expanded advisory councils.
  • 2022. Executed the association’s landmark 50th anniversary celebration.
  • 2024. Helped the annual conference reach and manage record attendance numbers.
  • Ongoing. Continue to manage sponsorship expansion and peak event demand.

The Results

The collaboration between AIM/R and CM Services has resulted in notable firsts for the association. Our services have directly multiplied its value and reach:

  • Multiplied sponsorships. AIM/R sponsorships have multiplied tenfold since the start of our partnership.
  • Landmark attendance. Annual conference attendance has more than doubled to more than 630 participants.
  • Strategic success. The association reached unprecedented growth levels in both membership and revenue.
  • Sustained culture. We preserved the close networking culture despite massive jumps in attendee numbers.

“From a couple hundred attendees to more than six-hundred, AIM/R’s attendance grew like gang busters and has reached historical levels.”
