Leading on the Shoulders of Giants

I met a leadership lover recently.  Her name is Ann Tardy.  She has a great story – the short of it is after successfully practicing corporate law, she discovered she had a passion for leadership and mentoring.  She stepped away from her law career to become a leadership and mentoring trainer and consultant.

The story is much deeper than this and you can find out more about Ann at her website.

After meeting her, I received a copy of her eNewsletter titled, “LifeMoxie”.  In the current issue, she makes a very insightful observation about leadership.  The observation starts with a quote from Sir Isaac Newton, “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.”

What a great thought – everything that’s contributed to my ability to lead, to my vision, I learned from watching and emulating others.  A simple, yet very truthful observation.

Everything we are as leaders, we have learned and developed by experiencing the leadership (and sometimes lack thereof) of others.

Ann’s blog is very interesting.  In it, she makes insightful observations about current leaders including the recently ousted CEO of Groupon, and leaders of Red Robin and California Pizza Kitchen.  I suggest you take a look at Ann’s blog on leadership.  You won’t be disappointed.
